What is fantasy football?

Fantasy football is a fantasy game made up of players from current NFL rosters to create your own "team". A group of people form a leauge to compete against each other weekly. A draft is set up and each person (team owner) picks certain players from the league. Points are accumlated by indvidual players based on certain stats that player accumulate a week. Owners are set up to play another owners team weekly. The scores from each of your players is added up and the owner with the most points earns a win for the week.

Ricky Williams Back

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reinstates Ricky Williams after and 18 month suspension. Williams was suspended by the league for violating the leagues substance abuse policy four times. Williams met last week with league administrators raising thier concerns about the reinstatement. A Boston-area treatment center, where Williams had spent most of the last 4 months, were supportive with his reinstatement. Satisfied with his improvement Goodell reinstated the 30 year old running back. Head coach Cam Cameron wasn't sure whether he would open a roster spot for Ricky, but after starting back Ronnie Brown went out for the year the Dolphins needed to fill a void at that spot. Williams will be elidgable to play November 26 against the Steelers. Don't expect to much fantasy value in Ricky Williams since he will be at most splitting carries with current starter Jessie Chatman. If you are hurting at the running back posistion and can spare a roster spot for him pick him up. Otherwise, lets see what he does when he gets back to determine his value.

Adrian Peterson goes down

After setting the single game rushing record (296 yards) last week, Vikings rookie sensation Adrian Peterson tore a ligament in his right LCL against the Packers Sunday. Peterson came up limping after being tackled down the sideline. What seemed to be a deep bone bruise later was found to be a lateral collateral ligament tear. Brett Favre sustained the same injury in 2002 and did not miss any action, but dont expect the same from Peterson. The injury should sideline him for at least one game and he is expected to play again later this season. The torn ligament does not seem to be season ending, which is good for the Viking. Don't expect Peterson or the Vikings to rush back into playing time. Peterson has rushed for a league high 1081 yards, averaging 6.4 yards a carry, and added 8 rushing touchdowns this season. Chester Taylor will be replacing him as starter. Look to pick up Taylor if he is available in your league. Peterson owners should not worry he will be back in a few games and tear it up again.

Brown, ACL, Out For Year

As if Miami could catch a break. The worst team in the NFL, the Miami Dolphins, lose their only offensive weapon to an torn ACL. Ronnie Brown tore his ACL last Sunday against the mighty New England Patriots during the third quater of the game. Brown the was the leading scorer for all fantasy running backs at the point of his injury. Backup Jessie Chatman will take his place, so if you have Brown be sure to pick up Chatman for insurance.

Miami Trades Chambers

The Miami Dolphins and the San Diego Charges came to terms to trade Chris Chambers from Miami to San Diego for second round draft. With Miami having a dismal year and the Chargers struggling out the blocks this trade seems to be beneficial to both teams. The Chargers gave up a 2008 second round draft pick to give Philip Rivers a veteran wide out. San Diego's wide receivers this year have not played so well against opposing defenses, so Chambers could have an impact early on. The Chargers two leading receivers were running back LaDainian Tomlinson and tight end Antonio Gates, not what coach Norv Turner intended. Chambers couldn't be happier to get out of the win less Miami organization stating, "It's going to be very interesting. I can't wait to get out there and help this team win and continue to be successful." Chambers fantasy owners should start using him more actively as he will have better numbers with a better team. If you are struggling at the receiver position try to acquire Chambers while his stock is still low.

Travis Henry Debacle

Denver Broncos runningback Travis Henry has been accused of failing the NFL drug test. Henry was suspended by the league for four games in 2005 because of a repeat violation of the substance abuse policy. If Henry is found to have infact violated the leauges substance abuse policy for the 3rd time, he could face a one-year suspension for a repeat violation. Henry has appealed the leauges test of his "B-sample" claiming that the NFL did not allow his personal expert to be present during the testing. Blocking a test sample in the leagues rules deemsthe test to have been failed. Henry wants to submit a hair sample and also take a lie detector test to prove that the positive test by th league administered drug test was false. Travis adamently states that he has been clean for years and believes these test will prove his innocence. The case has been transfered to federal jurisdiction where it will be determined whether he league is to suspend him for the required year or not. Fantasy owner of Henry should be keep their eye on this story. Denver is going to give him the starting role until he is found guilty. The outcome of this case should be done in the next 3 weeks or so. Fantasy owners should start the leagues top runner until it is determined whether he will play or not. If you have suffient backs to fill his place, try attempting to trade him away while he still is valuable.

Week 5 Point Leaders

QB

Tom Brady - Brady with yet another great game. He has thrown for at least 3 touchdowns every week this season. Brady threw for 265 yards and 3 touchdowns. - Fantasy points - 28
Philip Rivers - Finally, Rivers looked like the River's of last year. Even against the stout Denver pass defense, River's threw for 270 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 rushing touchdown. Fantasy points - 28

RB

Kenton Keith - I don't know where this fella came from, but it seems the Colts could have any back rushing for good numbers. Keith, filling in for the injured Joseph Addai, rushed for 121 yards, 2 touchdowns, and added 5 catches for 37 yards. Kenton Keith.....??? - Fantasy points - 29
Michael Turner - Turner is the backup for Tomlinson, but took advantage of the carries that were presented to him. Turner only carried the ball 10 times for 147 yards and a touchdown. He broke a 40 yard scramble and a 74 yard run as well. Turner is a good back, but he is behind Tomlinson unfortunately. Fantasy points - 25

WR
Plaxico Burress - Yet another good week for Plax. He seems to get it done every week no matter what team he plays. Burress caught 5 balls for 124 yards and a touchdown. Two of his catches were for 40 yards or more. Fantasy points - 23
Larry Fitzgerald - With Warner under center Fitzgerald will the main target on the pass happy Cardinals offense. Fitz was targeted frequently, catching 9 balls for 136 yards and a touchdown. Fitzgerald has been cold the first few games, but it seems he got his groove back heading into week 6. Fantasy points - 21

TE
Ben Watson - No one can seem to stop the Patriots offense this season. Brady is distributing the ball to what seems like every receiver on the team. Watson had another good game receiving 2 touchdowns for 107 yards. Fantasy points - 25

DEF
Bills Defense - 5 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery, 2 touchdowns, and a kickoff return for a score. Ridiculous game for an average defense. Fantasy points - 37

Key Pickups

With many players going out for the season due to injury, there are a few emerging players coming to their aid. In most fantasy leagues these players are still available. So, if your having some injury or bye week problems, these players could play a role in your starting lineup.

Earnest Graham - Cadillac is gone for the year with and ACL injury, Graham is taking the starting roll. Earnest has averaged a touchdown every game he played. With a depleted Buc's backfield, Graham looks like he will carry the load.

Aaron Stecker - Deuce made an early departure from the season busting up his ACL as well. Look for Stecker to fill his shoes, splitting carries with Reggie Bush. Don't look for Stecker to be a fantasy stud, but he may give you some decent points per week.

Daunte Culpepper - After last weeks 5 touchdown performance it may be tough to get Culpepper through wavier wire. He still is available in most fantasy leagues. Culpepper could be a good fantasy starter if your having quarterback issues. He could be useful if you need him for a bye week starter as well.

Kurt Warner - Splitting time with Lienart, Warner has done a pretty good job throwing for 3 touchdowns and remarkably no interceptions. If Lienart is struggling look for Warner to take over the starting job. Warner has been a fantasy stud in years past, perhaps he could do it again in Arizona. Warner might be a good pick up if you are having some problems at the quarterback position in your league.
